Following a diplomatic visit to key European locations, including Brussels, Italy, the Vatican, and France for the G7 Summit, President Lee stated that he personally addressed the issue with EU officials. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the new measures do not act as a trade barrier and called for special accommodations for South Korea. He pointed out the nation’s significance as a free trade agreement partner and strategic ally to the EU.
South Korean representatives have indicated that their dialogues with EU counterparts have been promising, fostering hope for a resolution that favors South Korean interests.
